Eugene, Oregon- Round 2

Some stops are glamorous only in retrospect. Our second rendezvous with the greater Eugene, OR, area was glamorous only in retrospect. We spent much of our second date with Eugene hopping between RV shops. The Eugene, Oregon area (specifically, Coburg and Junction City) is a mecca for RV craftsmen. So, we hunted a few down. We beat them into submission. We forced them to agree to install a new floor, re-upholster our couch, and paint a few trouble spots on Dyna’s 15 year old exterior. Joshua Tree, CA

Once again we find ourselves in desert. Surrounded by gritty, dry earth, creatures which creep, and prickly plants tempting us to touch them. With all of it’s sorcery, the desert has an ability to suck you in, dry you out, and spit you back out covered in dust and filled with thirst. And that’s just what this new expanse of desert did to us on our first night in her grips; she sucked Dyna in, and after a struggle of some length, she spit her back out- covered in dust.  Yep. Carlsbad, NM & Our First Real ‘Wildcamp’

After surviving the alien infested city of Roswell, we decided to spend a weekend checking out the bats near Carlsbad, NM.  We also decided that it would be a great opportunity to test out our ‘wildcamping’ or ‘boondocking’ skills (which typically involves finding some public/friendly land, parking your rig, and living out of it) since there didn’t appear to be too many great RV Park options nearby.  Plus, we really like the word ‘free’.  We’re finally getting the hang of the whole ‘not run your engine battery/house battery down’ when not plugged in deal (Jake is still playing with the…
