We wobbled and we wavered, but we finally decided to head ‘home’. As in, my original gangster home. The home where I grew up. The place I spent summers bridge jumping into creeks. The spot where I was sheltered from the larger, more diverse thinking and acting world. We’re talking Owego, and for a plethora of reasons, we’ve ended up spending at least a month here each summer for the past three summers. Needing to bring our niece Eden home to her father’s in Western NY after a few weeks of fun and stink, we decided to plop ourselves in…

We found ourselves back in Owego, NY in early August. And by ‘found’ ourselves… I might mean ‘lost’. Or something. Anyways, I woke up one morning in Owego after being there for a few days and thought to myself: “how did this happen?” I love Owego. I grew up in this area – and every time I get to come back, I’m grateful. But this was definitely an unexpected visit – especially knowing that we’d probably spend at least a month this go round. Luckily, our local ‘front yard’ really is lovely. We pulled into Hickories Park on a Monday…

In early August, we decided that we needed to leave our Montana adventures and return to my (Liz’s) hometown area of NY. We had some family issues boiling up, and finally, we realized we just needed to be in my family’s area of residence to help. A perk of having a house on wheels… we can just bring it with us. And then we have the comforts of home, wherever we need to call home at a given time. Which is highly comforting when you are working through a stressful situation. We spent 4 days hauling 2,075 miles across the…

Disclaimer: This blog was written at a significant delay (November 2018). As in, the delay was so significant, that I don’t feel that I can accurately represent our time at this location in story form. So, I am just going to post photos I captured here and then ramble about some of my clear memories of the place via some bullet points. How did I get so far behind? Well, there was a summer visit from a nephew, and also a giant party in Rochester that needed to be planned for. But, also, if it comes down to blog writing…

We boarded a ferry off of St. Thomas, flew to NYC, hopped on the city bus, ran under ground and boarded the subway, sprinted (literally) through the NYC bus terminal to catch our ($1!!) MegaBus, slept our way back to Binghamton, hopped into the car with my brother, and ended back up in my (Liz) hometown area. While we were in the B.V.I.s, Dyna was in the engine shop. And when we returned from the B.V.I.s, she still needed to spend some time in the shop – and then would need to move to a different shop. So we took…

After several weeks spent in Owego, NY (my hometown area), we plopped down in a campground nestled up to a former landfill-now-VIB (very important bird)-area; Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Being an hour train ride into the city, we were not expecting too much solitude. And we didn’t get that much either. But not due to human or infrastructure noise. It was the birds. The birds, who are VIB… were loud. All day. All night. Loud birds making loud bird noises. I like birds. They do funny things and they excite Lucy. Like when they eat from our trash…

We’re currently headed towards the Northeast for the summer. Winchester, Virginia happens to be on a route that could leave us in that general direction. In addition, Jake’s younger sister, Emily, attended college in Winchester, and while we’ve been to the city in brief spurts to visit with her or attend her graduation, we never spent time exploring the city. We secured a spot at Candy Hill RV Park, where we greeted by a crew of cantankerous management, parked, and regretted not leaving the campground upon arrival for the next 5 days. While the campground is well manicured, the road…

After spending many weird summer months in my hometown area of Owego, NY, we decided to join the rest of the country in ignoring best practice of ‘keeping it local’ and put our wheels on the road. With COVID-19 now present in every community in the U.S., we realized we were no longer the viral vectors we had feared we would be; that title had been claimed early in the summer by flocks of folks who ‘just need(ed) to get away from these COVID-19 lockdowns for a bit!’ One of my employment endeavors includes participating in customer service type activities.…

After being non-physically forcefully ejected from Jonathan Dickinson State Park due to Coronavirus induced closures of all Florida State Parks, we ended up at a private RV park in Vero Beach, Florida. We were able to snag a spot at the RV park due to the plight of Canadian snowbirds, most of whom had to end their trysts in warmer weather in order to get back across the Canadian border for fear of further border restrictions. When we called, we were quoted a $60/night price point, and guaranteed a campsite for the weekend at least. When we arrived at Sunshine…

What do you do when family time in NY beckons, but you are at least a two day drive away – and live with a cat who gets wicked car sick? You secure a site at an overcrowded, overpriced RV park within range of her favorite cat sitter – who happens to live just outside of Atlanta. Yes, the RV park sucks. Yes it’ll make the drive to NY a few hours longer. No, we really have don’t have another reason to be in the general vicinity of Atlanta. But guys… Lucy. She’s our baby and we love her very…
