Owego, NY

We found ourselves back in Owego, NY in early August. And by ‘found’ ourselves… I might mean ‘lost’. Or something. Anyways, I woke up one morning in Owego after being there for a few days and thought to myself: “how did this happen?” I love Owego. I grew up in this area – and every time I get to come back, I’m grateful. But this was definitely an unexpected visit – especially knowing that we’d probably spend at least a month this go round. Dyna’s Owego Yard at Hickories Park Luckily, our local ‘front yard’ really is lovely. We pulled…

4 Day Haul: Bozeman, MT to Owego, NY

In early August, we decided that we needed to leave our Montana adventures and return to my (Liz’s) hometown area of NY. We had some family issues boiling up, and finally, we realized we just needed to be in my family’s area of residence to help. A perk of having a house on wheels… we can just bring it with us. And then we have the comforts of home, wherever we need to call home at a given time. Which is highly comforting when you are working through a stressful situation. We spent 4 days hauling 2,075 miles across the…

July 2019: Idaho & Montana

Our summer month of July was jam packed with free front yards, little boy farts, amazing hikes, wildlife sightings, awe causing natural features, and the occasional evening spent watching Nat Geo. Our group of Chortlers for the summer We were busy – in the best ways. The outdoor from dawn past dusk kind of busy. The kind where you’re exhausted, but still want to keep on going. The sort of busy where you finally give up telling your nephew he has to shower because holy hell he smells like a rotten turd and just bribe him with the promise of…

Moose, WY

Holy shit, guys. THE GRAND TETONS. This place is unreal. We rolled into the Moose, Wyoming area of the Bridger-Teton National Forest around 3pm on Father’s Day Sunday in June. The undeveloped camping areas on National Forest land here are pretty damned popular amongst the free camping faction. We scouted ahead to assess our comfort level with the access road and the availability of space for us to plop our big butt up on Upper Teton, then we slowly hauled ass up a steep, narrow dirt road and docked in a postcard. The view at Upper Teton View is mythical.…

Long Haul: 1-90/Hwy 26

We spent more time than we ever desired in Sioux Falls. Because we’re a couple of idiots and broke Dyna. But as soon as we remedied that tribulation, we took a poop dump, filled our diesel tank, and booked it 900 miles. This took us around 16 driving hours. Because Dyna. She’s a synonym for ‘slow’. And I am not a very talented long hauler. I require naps. And diet cola pitstops. “But Liz, can’t you just store some diet cola in your wheeled house’s fridge and nicely ask Jake to retrieve the diet cola for you when you need…

Sioux Falls, SD (& a ROC Trip)

As I sit here at the second truck repair shop we’ve slept at in less that a week, I still can’t get over what a great month+ we’ve had in Sioux Falls (with a 10 day trip back to ROC sans RV). Our home address! We made it ‘home’! Even sitting in this repair shop, with our broken drive axle & jacked up differential – I just feel so happy about so much of the stuff that we got to experience over the past little bit. Waiting for her day with the Dr. Repair shop? Yeah, we screwed our axle.…

Sioux City, IA

Sioux City sits on the border of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. We parked Dyna at the city park in South Sioux City, Nebraska, which was across the river from the actual Sioux City, Iowa. The city park where we parked, Scenic Park Campground, was highly parkable. We picked a riverfront site with water and electric. We decided a view of the river was more important than being able to dump our nasty water tanks. The view of the river was great, until the view was hijacked by a person climbing a crane across the river, and having to be…

Cottonwood Falls, KS

We pulled into Cottonwood Falls, KS on a Sunday afternoon in April, hoping to be greeted by a first-come-first-serve space at the local park. We were greeted by several potential full-hook-up, grass campsites and one other big rig holding down the fort. After popping our levelers down, we headed out for a walk to check out the town of Cottonwood Falls. It didn’t turn out to be a very long walk – the town consists of one street of junk shops full of decrepit items looking for a new home. Some people call these junk shops ‘antique shops’, but growing…

Oklahoma City, OK

While at our last stop, in Murfreesboro, AR we had an emergency. The emergency was called “The Oh Shit We Are Fresh Out of Sumo Oranges Incident of April 2019”. We tried a quick fix involving mandarin oranges as bandaids, but the pain persisted. So, we had to find the nearest Whole Foods so that we could cauterize the wound. The nearest Whole Foods was Oklahoma City (OKC), so we steered Dyna there. We pulled into a first-come-first-serve park outside of OKC proper (in Edmund, OK), found a spot with full-hook-ups so that we could wash the laundry that had…

Murfreesboro, AR

There is a public diamond mine in Murfreesboro, AR. The only public diamond in the world. We’ve never been to a diamond mine, and this being the only public one in the world, we figured we better go check into it. Also, Murfreesboro is in our ‘general direction of Sioux Falls, SD’ path. Jake likes looking for diamonds because he enjoys boring stuff. We headed towards Crater of Diamonds State Park (the only public diamond mine), figuring we’d have no problem just calling an RV park on the way there to find a place to stay. Well, that was our…
