Lexington, KY

As seen on TV – and now real life! Lexington Kentucky is the horse capitol of the U.S. The horse capitol of the U.S. is a place I want to be. The Kentucky Horse Park is a state-owned and managed public park dedicated to all things horses. It’s amazing and it happens to include a campground adjacent to the horse grounds. Dreams do come true. Our timing was a bit off for witnessing any horse-related events. Our timing was very good for our campsite’s back lawn to be a drive-through lights show. Looking out our bedroom window after dark was…

Olive Hill, KY

Sometimes we seek an area that promises nearly nothing to do. Carter Caves State Park in the off-season was promising in the realm of not much to do, but a whole lot of space to do it in. We crept through the back hills of Kentucky, taking the switchbacks that are rarely forewarned but are ever-present, at a sloth’s pace and arrived at Carter Caves late in the afternoon looking forward to a campsite with full-hook-ups and questionable levelness. While our site turned out to be more level than expected, the water to the campsite – and every campsite in…

Fayetteville, WV

Fayetteville, WV was an adventure. A full half of that adventure was driving Dyna up and down and around the narrow, sketchy roads leading to the campground we booked just outside of town. Upon arrival at the campground, we were greeted with a closed-for-the-season ropes course and an empty row of RV campsites up a few switchbacks to an overlook. The six evenings of quiet this campsite provided us eventually allowed my nervous system to return blood flow to my white knuckles. Our campsite at ACE Adventure Resort provided us access to an open Starlink cell, miles of dirt roads…

Newport, OH

Two weeks of social interactions left us feeling full. Full of love and full of the desire to go hide somewhere near a river in an RV with our cat. We found ourselves at Harris RV Park, which is cheek by jowl to the Ohio River. The Ohio River plays the parental role for Ohio and West Virginia – separating the two states so that there is no risk of “he’s touching me! His arm is on my side!” We slept in Ohio, which is questionable. Look at statistics. Statistically, Ohio isn’t real. (If we must have conspiracy theories, this…

Greensburg, PA

Greensburg: current home to several friends. Past home of a few more. Reason enough for a visit for us! There were not many options for RV overnighting in the Greensburg area from late October into early November. We found ourselves hunkered down at a KOA 20 minutes outside of the bumbling city of Greensburg. A KOA with an amazing (and still inflated!) jumping pillow, but scant running opportunities if you didn’t want to possibly die by car or truck speeding down a narrow road. The perks of a good KOA We found ourselves driving out to meet the various rail…

Kane, PA

Red Bridge Campground in Kane, PA provided us the perfect decompression environment after a busy, mostly bucket-filling two-and-a-half-weeks in Rochester, NY. Red Bridge Campground No, you didn’t miss a blog. I have written numerous blogs about our stop-overs in Rochester, NY in the past, and am choosing not to write another this go-round. We did thoroughly enjoy our time there. We camped out in Webster Park. Attended a much-loved friend’s wedding. We loved on and were loved by friends and family. I ran 50 miles around Canandaigua Lake (my favorite ultra). We took Lucy to the vet, where she reminded…

St. Johnsville, NY

We landed in St. Johnsville, NY for a night after spending the morning clenching our buttcheeks with worry as a team of refrigerator installers worked to implant Dyna with a new cooling unit. New fridge day We’re not good at trusting other people to work on Dyna. We’ve had experiences. Ok, mostly Jake is not good at allowing it. But I question allowing it too, so it’s pretty consensus. New fridge! So shiny! So new! So working! Other than a water leak gushing out Dyna’s side (poorly installed fitting) and lack of proper alignment of the fridge itself – both…

Burlington, VT

After a harrowing drive in our behemoth of a mobile home through the busy, crowded streets of Burlington, we arrived at a janky little campsite at North Beach Campground. North Beach Campground We were pretty stoked about this campground, which is nestled next to a greenway that juts into Lake Champlain if you travel North, and terminates in the city of Burlington if you traverse two-miles South. The campground left a bit to be desired; mostly in the form of space. While most of our neighbors during our week-long stay at North Beach Campground were quiet, there was one neighbor…

Stowe, VT

We rolled into Stowe Vermont sore and thirsty. Sore from the lactic acid that just did not want to recede after an epic hike in the White Mountains in Franconia, NH. Thirsty at the thought of Alchemist Brewing being just a few miles down the road from our overnighting spot at Gold Brook Campground. Lucy approved campgroundLucy approved campgroundLucy approved campground Scott & Ellie continued their visit with us, working from the picnic table outside during the week. We found Stowe to be pleasant. I was surprised at the ratio of those in the Boomer age group to any other…

Franconia, NH

I’m in love with Franconia, NH. It is one of the most beautiful, uncrowded places I have experienced. The running in the area is superb. The views are outstanding. It’s quiet. After two days in the area, I came back from a run and announced to Jake: “I’m ready to live here now.” So, we started house shopping. And then we realized that Franconia is 7.5 hours from ‘our people’ and 7 hours from a Wegmans. And… we’re just not quite ready yet. We might be getting ready for roots. But not yet. Maybe soon. Maybe part-time roots. And maybe…
