Myrtle Beach, SC 2021

We are coming to terms with the idea that maybe we actually like Dirty Myrtle. We seem to end up here at a frequency that would indicate this actuality, especially since Myrtle Beach (#dirtymyrtle) is not on the way to anywhere. So our ‘Nashville’ excuse (we have stopped there a few times too – but Nashville is usually ‘on the way’) doesn’t elucidate the fact that we have now spent over three months of our traveling life parked in Dirty Myrtle over the span of 5.5 years. If I was Jake, I would give you that in percentage form, but…

Durham/Raleigh, NC

We spent the month of December and a bit of January in the vicinity of Durham and Raleigh North Carolina, enjoying some outdoor type activities, but still limited by the virus which continued to bully the U.S. While I typically break my blog posts up by city, we just haven’t done enough stuff outside of boring stuff to report in on. Over the past months, most of our time has been consumed with regular non-travel life stuff like puzzles, reading, and binge-watching terrible television shows. And honestly, that stuff is fine and great. But it’s not ‘hey, look at this…

Jupiter, FL

We settled into our campsite at Jonathan Dickinson State Park (apparently Florida really enjoys naming state parks after bros names ‘Jonathan’) with hopes of running a 6-hour ultramarathon in preparation for a 100-mile ultramarathon that was on my calendar for later in April. Jonathan Dickinson State Park A few days into our stay at Jonathan Dickinson, the 6-hour had been cancelled. And then the 100-miler had been cancelled. And then our campsite at the state park had been cancelled. C&O 100 Miler is cancelled. Coronavirus may have made its debut on the shores of the U.S.A in January, but in…

Spartanburg, SC

We rolled into Croft State Park outside of Spartanburg, SC under the premise of me (Liz) running a 24-hour race. Croft is a nice park, although due to the race, which we were there for, the only available camping spaces were in the lower area of the park. This looked fine on paper. Heck, the lower area of the park overlooks a lake! But, after ramming our big ass down to this area, knuckles quickly turning white, we realized that the spot we had reserved was less than suitable for an oversized ass such as ours. Luckily there were a…

Eugene, OR

On our drive up to Eugene from Northern Cali, I was rambling on and on about how great the city of Eugene was going to be. At some point in my soliloquy of praise, Jake stopped me and said “you know Eugene is a small city right?” To which I argued, “well, it’s bigger than Rochester!” Which is false. And I was wrong. Somewhere in my highschool/college girl track runner dreams, I had some up with the idea that the fantasitical city of Eugene must be HUGE in order to hold in all the greatness that it contained. Greatness like Hayward…
