Iraan, TX

After a month full of hubbub in the form of much loved guests visiting us in San Antonio, Jake and I decided to head West into the heart of Texas. We knew that the ‘heart’ of Texas is a pretty barren place. And barren is where we were feeling we needed to go. After consulting the handy-dandy Campendium site (shameless plug), we settled on a town called Iraan. Because, come on. Texas is home to a place called Iraan? Awesome. Also, Iraan, TX reportedly confirmed offers full-hook up, no reservations needed RV camping for $15 per night. Double awesome. We…

Owego, NY

We boarded a ferry off of St. Thomas, flew to NYC, hopped on the city bus, ran under ground and boarded the subway, sprinted (literally) through the NYC bus terminal to catch our ($1!!) MegaBus, slept our way back to Binghamton, hopped into the car with my brother, and ended back up in my (Liz) hometown area. While we were in the B.V.I.s, Dyna was in the engine shop. And when we returned from the B.V.I.s, she still needed to spend some time in the shop – and then would need to move to a different shop. So we took…

Ellis, KS

We made it to Kansas!   We bopped in an out of Ellis, KS right quick like; it’s the kind of place that the only thing to do is ‘bop in and out right quick like’. There is a cute, cheap camping area near the river (with full hook-ups) and we were looking a few nights of cheap solitude. Ellis has quiet and solitude. And not too much more. There are a bunch of trains strewn about (tastefully) to celebrate the town’s train loving ways. There is a tiny museum dedicated to Walter Chrysler, who founded the Chrysler Corporation; he…

Parma, ID

Big wheels have been turning toward middle America. We don’t have a firm plan of when we’ll arrive. We don’t have a specific route we’re planning to drive. But, we do have a goal of reaching Colorado in the near-ish future.  Idaho is currently providing us with a road to explore while headed in that general direction. Idaho also touts many roadside attractions. Alright, alright– so far, most of those ‘roadside attractions’ have been potatoes and onions laying alongside the road. But hey, an attraction is an attraction. And an attraction being edible is definitely a bonus.  We happened upon…

Weed, CA

After reviewing Jake’s in depth expense reports (yes, we track our $ flow quite closely), we decided that if we could find a free place to crash for a bit before heading up to Eugene, OR for a month, we should do that. Also, free is awesome (I feel like I say that a lot). We researched into options that a.) wouldn’t be too far off of our trajectory from Lathrop, CA to Eugene, OR b.) would be free or damned near close to that c.) wouldn’t be too far up some windy road where Dyna could fall off a cliff due…

Tomball, TX

Tomball, TX. A town with a German Christmas Festival, few sidewalks, and a fountain in the shape of an oil platform. And also, free RV camping with full hook-ups. H2O, sewer, 50A. FREE. So, if you were wondering “why the heck did Jake & Liz choose to stay in a town called Tomball that is lacking in the sidewalk department” (sidewalks are important for running safety), well, there it is. Free RV parking.  Tomball has a cute little town area sporting ‘The Depot Plaza’ (which proudly boasts ‘the oil fountain’ as well as some train related stuff), a sculpture of a…
