We stayed 2 nights at Monahans Sandhills State Park. We played in the sand. It was awesome in the kind of way that living on another planet might be awesome. You might not want to stay forever (due to the ability of the sand of this other planet to creep into every nook and cranny of everything, the inconvenience of lack of conveniences, and the possibility of aliens bothering you). After playing in the sand, we quickly figured out that there is literally nothing going on in the town of Monahans (hence, lack of convenience). Well, ok, that’s a little bit of a fib. There is oil drilling and selling supplies for said oil drilling going on in Monahans. For shits and giggles, there was even an oil drill in the State Park (yay). So we just played in the sand at the State Park and pretended to be on another planet where the only thing to do is play in the sand. We also spent some time being thankful that it wasn’t windy, because I can imagine that flying sand is not as much fun as hills of sand. On our way out of the land of oil drilling and sand, we did find an awesome little donut shop (conveniently called Monahans Donuts, which makes my prior statement of lack of convenience somewhat null and void) at which we highly recommend eating donuts. We suggest the apple fritters. They were out of this world… kind of like the whole sand hills thing.
