Charleston, SC

We rolled into Charleston’s James Island County Park with a (hard fought) reservation for 2 weeks – split between 3 separate ‘sites’. The first site was deemed ‘the worst site in the park’ by two separate park employees. The second site was a giant field behind the park where we could park without hook-ups. The third site was a handicap accessible site (score!). Moral of the story: if you want to stay in/near Charleston, you should probably reserve yourself a spot earlier than a month before. Or, you could have a ‘Jake’, who is willing to call parks multiple times…

Myrtle Beach, SC

We were going to head straight from the Charlotte area to Charleston. But then, as we were assessing the map for our route, we noticed Myrtle Beach hanging around – neither of us have ever been. So, we tinkered around with possible parks to stay in Myrtle Beach and Jake found a ‘snow bird special’ rate at the State Park. We love deals. Lake Norman, NC

We have some really brilliant ideas on occasion.  Our latest piece of brilliance was an attempt to boondock within the compounds of Scott’s apartment complex. We got 2 nights of free rent before being evicted abruptly. At least the eviction was using our own throttle rather than a tow truck (we’ve been told the towing bill on a 40′ house on wheels is not easy to swallow). Asheville, NC

So, I guess it snows in Asheville. And by “I guess” I mean, yes, it definitely snows. We have proof. But, now we can state: ‘We survived our first real snow in Dyna!’ It wasn’t bad at all. Probably because we’re from NY and are snow professionals. But mostly because Dyna’s previous owner (hey Edward!) kindly left a portable heater in a bay (aka, our basement) when he passed Dyna along to us. Thank goodness for that little electric heater. Nashville, TN (2)

On the drive back to Nashville, TN from NY, Jake felt it coming. The ache. Except this time, it wasn’t the ‘adventure’ ache. It was the ‘oh shit, my head aches’ ache. We had been had. Ditching Dyna: NY for the Holidays 2016

Living somewhere new whenever we feel like living somewhere new is pretty awesome. But, as with most things that are awesome, there are downsides. Like missing your people. Yeah, that’s a big downside to not ‘planting’ yourself anywhere. For us, it is the current biggest bummer about traveling as a lifestyle. Nashville, TN… & back to St.Louis MO

We planned to spend some time in Nashville, TN.   But… then we decided to go back to St.Louis, MO. St.Louis, MO

We came for the beer; we stayed because there is a lot of really cool crap to do in St.Louis. We found ourselves getting thirsty during our venture across Kansas. As reported in a previous blog, Kansas is pretty void of good beer. We knew St.Louis was home to beer – and not just Anheuser-Busch either. So, we were looking forward to that. Topeka, KS

Kansas’ state motto is “through the stars, through difficulties.” I think a better motto would be “to Topeka, through the chocolate factory.” But, if Kansas wants to keep their ‘star’ version, I guess we can relate – we should just about be in space right now with the amount of difficulty Topeka, Kansas presented in finding a solid craft brewery. Ellis, KS

We made it to Kansas!   We bopped in an out of Ellis, KS right quick like; it’s the kind of place that the only thing to do is ‘bop in and out right quick like’. There is a cute, cheap camping area near the river (with full hook-ups) and we were looking a few nights of cheap solitude. Ellis has quiet and solitude. And not too much more.
