Ditching Dyna: NY for the Holidays 2016

Living somewhere new whenever we feel like living somewhere new is pretty awesome. But, as with most things that are awesome, there are downsides. Like missing your people. Yeah, that’s a big downside to not ‘planting’ yourself anywhere. For us, it is the current biggest bummer about traveling as a lifestyle. Nashville, TN… & back to St.Louis MO

We planned to spend some time in Nashville, TN.   But… then we decided to go back to St.Louis, MO. Another sign that our life is #blessed: we can decide to change our planned place of living (Nashville) to somewhere 320 miles away (St.Louis) over the span of a 5 minute conversation (which may have originally started on the topic of pizza). St.Louis, MO

We came for the beer; we stayed because there is a lot of really cool crap to do in St.Louis. We found ourselves getting thirsty during our venture across Kansas. As reported in a previous blog, Kansas is pretty void of good beer. We knew St.Louis was home to beer – and not just Anheuser-Busch either. So, we were looking forward to that. Topeka, KS

Kansas’ state motto is “through the stars, through difficulties.” I think a better motto would be “to Topeka, through the chocolate factory.” But, if Kansas wants to keep their ‘star’ version, I guess we can relate – we should just about be in space right now with the amount of difficulty Topeka, Kansas presented in finding a solid craft brewery. Ellis, KS

We made it to Kansas!   We bopped in an out of Ellis, KS right quick like; it’s the kind of place that the only thing to do is ‘bop in and out right quick like’. There is a cute, cheap camping area near the river (with full hook-ups) and we were looking a few nights of cheap solitude. Ellis has quiet and solitude. And not too much more. Denver, CO (Round 2)

Colorado. Why are you so cool? How did you get this way? With all of your cool sunsets. And your cool mountains. And your cool air. Fort Collins, CO

We love Colorado. A lot. Fantastic beer. Amazing opportunities for outdoor activities. Ghost towns. The Rockies almost always looming in the distance. Adventure culture. But there is more in Colorado for us to love than just the ‘Colorado’ of Colorado.  We’ve got people here.  And the people let us moochdock in their driveway. And they cook us food and share adult beverages with us. And they are generally more kind, thoughtful, and engaging than is probably warranted. Medicine Bow National Forest, WY

We heard reports of some good National Forest land between Laramie and Cheyenne, so we pointed Dyna that way. Reports we confirmed- solid boondocking spot out around Pole Mountain in Medicine Bow National Forest. Seriously- gorgeous country. And, as an added bonus, we were the only folks out there for our two night stay! Double bonus: a presidential debate occurred during our stay. And personally, there isn’t a better motivator for experiencing some ‘alone time’ than a presidential debate.  Of course, it’s been a few posts since we’ve had to write about repairs. Rock Springs, WY

Fun fact: Wyoming had the lowest population of all 50 states. So much land. So few people. Not always a bad thing…  We meandered into Rock Springs, WY and parked the big lug at the fairgrounds. After searching for a working water spigot to hook-up to for way longer than was appropriate, we put down our levelers and settled in for a few nights. Rexburg, ID

“Holy crap! Pull over!” Potatoes and onions aren’t the only interesting things in Idaho. Idaho also has ‘the moon.’ Recently, we haven’t been traveling with ‘firm’ plans. We’ve just been driving. East. So, when we drove into Craters of the Moon National Monument, we were pretty surprised. We had no idea that Idaho had a large swath of land impersonating the moon. We’re glad it does; the novelty of this place makes it pretty awesome. In full disclosure, Idaho’s ‘moon’ doesn’t have anything to do with the ‘real’ moon.
