Myrtle Beach, SC

We were going to head straight from the Charlotte area to Charleston. But then, as we were assessing the map for our route, we noticed Myrtle Beach hanging around – neither of us have ever been. So, we tinkered around with possible parks to stay in Myrtle Beach and Jake found a ‘snow bird special’ rate at the State Park. We love deals. We got very excited and called the nice park host lady and they had openings in the back of the park. The deal was for a month stay, which we weren’t convinced we wanted to commit to. But, paying for…

Central California Coast

Spent a few weeks boppin’ up and down the centralish Coast of Cali. Actually, I don’t even know what the ‘central’ coast of would be considered. I’m sure Californians have their rules about what they deem central, but since I’m not a Californian I get to make stuff up and call it good. Anyways, this is a post about the time we spent in several places from Big Sur to Half Moon Bay with a few trips up into the city of San Francisco.  We’ve had our homing beacons set on movement towards Big Sur, CA for the past 6ish months. You see…

New Orleans, LA (& Mardi Gras!)

Mardi Gras. An event that I grew up hearing about, but not really knowing about. In college the student center would give out King Cake for free, and I thought that was pretty cool, so Mardi Gras had to be pretty cool. Because of cake. I love cake.  While we were trucking across Texas, Jake suggested that instead of turning around and heading back towards Cali (we’re running the Big Sur Marathon in late April, so that’s our next ‘destination’) in Houston, we try to make it to Mardi Gras. So we did. Because when you live in a house on wheels…

Galveston, TX

After a ‘sorta’ month in Houston, we were hoping for a bit of a reprieve from city slicking. We headed to Galveston, TX, just a bit more than an hour south of Houston by car. Or more like 2ish hours by Dyna (life in the slow lane). We got that bit of reprieve. In mid January, the beaches of Galveston are empty of people, free from most litter, and the brown water laps up onto the sorta smelly sand ceaselessly.  We stayed at Galveston Island State Park, first for a week on the ‘bayside’ and then for a few extra days…

Austin, TX

Promises of weirdness. Promises of amazing food. Promises of unparalleled people watching. Promises of… disappointment? Austin gave us a rough start. Although, to be honest, it wasn’t exactly Austin’s fault.  Our first 2 days in the greater Austin area: #1: we chose a subpar RV park* in Dripping Springs that was a full 50minutes outside of Austin. This park, which will now be known as ‘the situation’ had no reviews online; it is ‘brand new’.  The owner sounded nice over the phone. ‘The situation’ has a really nice website, especially for an RV park. We paid for a month sight unseen. Rookie mistake. After cruising (as…

Roswell, NM

Welcome to the city of believers! From October 9th-16th, we were surrounded by conspiracy theorists, a ton of bugs, and possibly aliens.  We decided to stay a bit outside of the city of Roswell in a State Park called Bottomless Lakes.  We chose to stay there because it was pretty cheap for full hook-ups, it touted FREE wifi (so much uploading happened during our stay!), and we tend to like the State Park scene better than the RV park scene. We got lucky because this particular State Park also happens to be one of the two things to do in…

Longmont, Denver & Fort Collins, CO

After driving up into Wyoming from Steamboat in order to avoid the Rockies, Dyna, Jake & I spent September 8th-13th hopping between some beer-laden towns in North Western Colorado. We spent a few days parked at St.Vrain State Park, which was an interesting location (read: state park next to a highway), but allowed for easy access to places such as Boulder, Oskar Blues Brewery, an Apple Store and an RV Salvage yard. Boulder is a cool town; we bought some new plates that are difficult to break (I bet I can still break them!) and some cookies there. Oskar Blues…

Steamboat, CO

August 25th (a glorious day, because it is the day that a very special G, A.Crain, was born!) through September 8th was spent near Steamboat Springs, CO.  We parked Dyna a bit outside of Steamboat at Yampa River State Park.  What’s so special about parking here? It wasn’t just the vibrant night skies which put on a nightly show of the entire milky way. It wasn’t even the mosquito bites which frequently occurred due to the fact that the park has been designated a ‘no spray zone’. Nope, it wasn’t the super attentive park rangers who covered the tent campers’…

Blanding, UT

This weekend was spent in ruins. Literally. Like the Anasazi kind (remember those guys? I ‘learned‘ about them in Elementary school. I bet you ‘learned‘ about them too).  Anyways, I didn’t remember anything I ‘learned’ about them either, so here’s what these dudes were all about.  Jake & I hiked into Cedar Mesa with the hopes of spotting a few of the buildings they left behind.  A nasty storm kept following us, so we had to add a little extra hike down the primitive road to get to the actual trails (and by ‘a little extra’ I mean 10 miles).  We…
