Farmerville, LA

We left Jackson, MS without much idea of our next stop. But, when we happened upon an RV park in Farmerville, LA that looked like it sat directly on an expanse of water, we decided to drive on up there and take a look. D’Arbonne Point RV Park We pulled into D’Arbonne Point late on a Friday afternoon, and after struggling valiantly to figure out how to claim a site and pay for that site, we took the Jeep out for a drive to check out the area. Pretty quickly we realized that the area is a giant fishing pond.…

Jackson, MS (& Franklin, NC)

After spending Mardi Gras 2019 in New Orleans, we checked a map and saw Jackson, Mississippi a few hours North. Why not? Timberlake Campground Sunset Dyna spent a full two weeks in a space at Timberlake Campground just outside of Jackson. However, Jake, Lucy and I had plans to ditch her for about a week and follow Scott up to Franklin, NC where his AT adventure would approximately place him. Jackson seemed like a decent place to launch from. We’re conscious of Dyna’s slow driving pace – and her ability to burn $$ in diesel form. The drive to Franklin…

New Orleans, LA (2)

With our stockpile of MoonPies from Mobile dwindling, we pulled into the French Quarter RV Resort in New Orleans. And no, it’s not shameful to eat 3 to 5 MoonPies per person, per day during Mardi Gras season. Or ever. But especially during Carnival/Mardi Gras season. So go on and dismount your MoonPie consumption high horse if you had mounted it. Or stay there. I’m actually jealous that you’re riding a horse and I’m not. French Quarter RV Resort (FQRV) is a swanky little place surrounded by high brick walls on the backside of the French Quarter. It’s clean, maintained,…

Mobile, AL

After reluctantly dragging ourselves away from Goat Island, we decided to make a pitstop in Mobile, AL before landing in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We figured Mobile would be a nice warm up for New Orleans, seeing as it is home to the first established Mardi Gras celebration in the U.S.. Also, I had heard mention of Mobile, AL in the Forest Gump movie, and they made it sound good in that movie. Permanent Mardi Gras respect happening in Mobile And it was good! For the one full day and two evenings we spent there. Which is inarguably not…

Montgomery, AL

As we looked at the map for a route to head toward New Orleans for our second Mardi Gras experience, we noted Montgomery was kind of on the way down from Atlanta. And then I stumbled upon possibly the greatest discovery of all time. The discovery is an island. Of goats. A goat island. Just outside of Montgomery. Oh, and also the goats live in the abandoned set for Tim Burton’s movie Big Fish. Yes. They are movie star goats. Living on an island. Where Tim Burton filmed Big Fish. Outside of Montgomery. Yei(ie)ld For Goats, damnit. And then we…

Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

Around Thanksgiving time of 2018, my younger sister, the notorious K.A.Y. mentioned wanting to partake in a vacation trip of some sort with her beloved older sister, me. At some point within a group text message mess we settled on exploring the Las Terrenas area of the Dominican Republic for a week. So, in February of 2019, Jake, Kay and Kay’s boy-man-friend named Nate and I hopped on planes and met in the Santo Domingo airport. We rented a car, piled our carry-ons into the trunk, and drove two hours North to Playa Bonita in Las Terrenas, DR where we…

Atlanta, GA – sort of

We arrived in Atlanta on a Wednesday afternoon, after dragging ourselves out of our quiet spot in Crawfordsville, GA. We were a little bit dreading Atlanta – the RV park prospects here are dismal (based on past experience). But, we were not dreading the reason for us being in Atlanta: using the Atlanta Airport. Direct flight to the Dominican Republic for a week of vacation with my little sister? NOT DREADING. So that’s a cool thing about traveling full time. If you want, you can just drive your house to a convenient/cheap airport so you can fly to wherever it…

Crawfordville, GA

Home to a BBQ restaurant and the Main Street that was in the movie Sweet Home Alabama. Home of Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederate States of America. Home of Chuck the Duck. Ok, so definitely most importantly is that Crawfordville, GA is home to Chuck the Duck. He is the best duck we have ever met. Also, the bossiest duck. But also the best. Feed me, bitch.Feed me, other bitch.FEED ME.Chuck, the duck. Upon arrival at A.H. Stephens State Park we were greeted by a large, pull through full-hook-up camping site, the most friendly camphost we’ve ever…

Augusta, GA

Augusta, Georgia sounds like a cool place. We needed to get to Atlanta so that we could use their airport. Augusta was between Myrtle and Atlanta. So, we ended up in Augusta. And it wasn’t not cool. They have big pieces of cake there. Originally we had hoped to park our butts out in Aiken, SC because they have a lot of ponies and pony people and people riding ponies but not ponies riding people. Apparently a lot of people want to go see the ponies and the people who ride them because we couldn’t get ourselves an RV sized…

Santee, SC

We chugged into Santee State Park in mid January, after spending a lovely month with friends in Myrtle Beach. We didn’t have much in the way of expectation for what we’d find in the area of Santee State Park. We also didn’t have a timeline of how long we were going to stay. Both of these things turned out to be a good things. Santee State Park There wasn’t much in the way of anything going on in the area of Santee, SC. We found out pretty quickly that camping at Santee State Park is the ‘thing’ to do when…
