Lathrop, CA (Yosemite & Wine Country)

We thoroughly enjoy visitors from our non-nomadic life joining us for stints during our nomadic life. And when our visitors leave, we get sad. Because we miss them. And also, because we have to catch up on the work we put off while they were with us. So, mostly missing them. But also, sucky work. After a whirlwind of familiar faces back on the California Coast and in San Francisco, we had a lot of catching up to do. Since Jake holds down a typical (ok, not so typical- his company is awesome) 40hr+ a week job, we like to plan to…

Bakersfield, CA

I am really tempted to type out “THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN BAKERSFIELD, CA’ and then end this post. But that’s probably not true; although maybe it’s a little true. To be fair, we didn’t plan to do much during our week in the ‘Field, as Dyna had some pressing (more like pressuring) issues we needed to take care of. But also to be fair, when I did some googling of things that might be on the up&up in the ‘Field, I found the following suggestions: (1) meth (2) drive away. A few people (who appeared to be locals according…

Tucson, AZ

We pulled into Tucson, AZ after a 10 hour day of driving. And then, we got stuck. As in, one of our rear drive wheels came off the ground, and since you need both drive wheels touching the ground to move, we weren’t moving. So that wasn’t good. Luckily, we had Bob just a few spaces down to teach us the ways of getting unstuck. These ‘ways’ involve levelers, blocks, and an audience of fellow RVers sitting in lawn chairs watching our debacle. I firmly believe that the audience which predictably forms around any ‘RV idiot moment’ is the most…

Galveston, TX

After a ‘sorta’ month in Houston, we were hoping for a bit of a reprieve from city slicking. We headed to Galveston, TX, just a bit more than an hour south of Houston by car. Or more like 2ish hours by Dyna (life in the slow lane). We got that bit of reprieve. In mid January, the beaches of Galveston are empty of people, free from most litter, and the brown water laps up onto the sorta smelly sand ceaselessly.  We stayed at Galveston Island State Park, first for a week on the ‘bayside’ and then for a few extra days…

San Antonio, TX

I’m fixin’ to start this post off with a list of things we’ve noted/learned about Texas thus far. We’ve been here less than a month and have only parked the rig in 3 locations, but DANG. This place is wild. In all sorts of ways. I’m pretty sure Texans actually believe that Texas is the largest continent on Earth. It is also the biggest country in the United States. And also the largest planet in the solar system. I have a lot of respect for this belief. And, being the main driver in our expeditions, I can attest to that…

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

The last 3 months (& first 3 months!) of our travels have been geared towards slowly, but surely, driving Dyna towards Albuquerque, New Mexico.  We took the ‘long way’ around Utah and Colorado to get here and now, we are HERE!  Here’s a fun fact: Jake reserved camping spaces at the Fiesta two months before we had found or bought Dyna.  We had been told that spaces are limited and popular and thankfully, my ‘always on top of things’ partner, Jake, was cognisant that Fiesta was not something we could miss.  Thank heavens for him!   We arrived at ‘Balloon Fiesta Park’…

Colorado Springs, CO, Part II: SCOTT!

Over the past month, Jake and I have been lucky to spend time with several friends from our lives before Dyna who haven’t run away from us screaming “leave me alone crazy people!” Our friend Scott added himself to that list while we were in Colorado Springs, CO. He flew all the way from the not-so-sunny city of Rochester to hang out with us for a long weekend.  We didn’t want to disappoint him by not doing enough stuff, so we climbed 2 ‘Fourteeners‘, hung out 1,000ft below the ground, camped under the Super-Blood-Moon-Eclipse, and drank good beer. Oh, and we…

Page, AZ

We’ve been doing some stuff over the past week.  Like meeting up with my long-lost college running mate and goodfriend, JessBrown (she will always be JB- JessBrown- to me. Sorry Andy!). And moving Dyna up to Page, AZ.  And adventuring on foot, car, and kayak. And playing a fun little game called ‘plumbing’.  Let’s start with the fun game.  After an afternoon of exploration and getting conned into eating at this place with every European tourist in town (no, we don’t recommend you go here for good barbecue, but the people watching was elite status), we tucked in for the…
