Cedar Falls, IA

I am in love with Cedar Falls, Iowa. I never expected to declare love for a city in Iowa. But here I am, touting the little glories of a small city in Iowa. It’s got a 24/7 donut shop. It’s got several breweries plus a dumpling shop that has dedicated its taps to Toppling Goliath, which happens to have a lager that I would give up candy for a day to drink. Which brings me to Stam’s Chocolate store, a place that exists in Cedar Falls and sells Marzipan Chocolates. The running options felt endless and we found ourselves motivated…

Evansville, IN

I don’t know how we ended up in Evansville, IN but it was fine. We called while in transit to snag a site at Burdette Park Campground which was quiet and had decent running access but also weirdly (for a county park) full of RVs that seemed to be there for the long term. As amateur fifth-wheel haulers, maneuvering through the campground was a bit of a butt clencher – but we did it with no scars to show. Burdette Park Campground Flourish Plant-Based Eatery While in Evansville we enjoyed our second tornado siren of the season. This meant we…

Cincinnati, OH – So Long, Dyna

We have been manifesting a transition for half a year now. And by ‘manifesting’ I mean that I have been manifesting it just like you see the influencers on social media do while Jake has been working through the processes and details and phone calls to make it happen. I’m pretty sure that’s how manifesting works. We bought I manifested a new house! It still has wheels, but two fewer than our old girl. It still has slide-outs; one extra. It’s not got an engine, meaning we’re now a single-engine family. Still diesel though – wouldn’t want to decrease our…

Croton-on-Hudson, NY

After several weeks spent in Owego, NY (my hometown area), we plopped down in a campground nestled up to a former landfill-now-VIB (very important bird)-area; Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Being an hour train ride into the city, we were not expecting too much solitude. And we didn’t get that much either. But not due to human or infrastructure noise. VIBs everywhere It was the birds. The birds, who are VIB… were loud. All day. All night. Loud birds making loud bird noises. I like birds. They do funny things and they excite Lucy. Like when they eat from…

Chattanooga, TN

I have a difficult time thinking of Chattanooga without the Chattanooga ChooChoo song invading my mind and then hanging around for hours on repeat. If you do not know this song, then I’m not going to recommend clicking that link. If you do, I am sorry that it is now on loop in your brain too. I know this song because I grew up with parents who dabbled in the world of antiques. Throughout my childhood years, I spent many many hours in antique stores. Some, my parents owned and operated. Others, they rented space to sell their treasures in.…

Clarksburg, MD

Accident, MD During our multi-hour drive through the winding roads of West Virginia, and into the still winding roads of backcountry Maryland, we happened upon the tiny town of Accident, Maryland, where we accidentally stopped for an accidentally delicious pond side lunch provided by the tiny town bakery nestled in town. Fueled by melty, fresh-baked bread sandwiches, we rolled into our campsite at Little Bennett County Park late on a Tuesday afternoon. Little Bennet CampgroundLittle Bennet Campground Little Bennett Campground is a gem of a place – chock full of hiking trails and spacious campsites. If we weren’t in the…

Kicked Around Florida: Vero Beach & Melbourne

After being non-physically forcefully ejected from Jonathan Dickinson State Park due to Coronavirus induced closures of all Florida State Parks, we ended up at a private RV park in Vero Beach, Florida. No fun at Sunshine Travel RV Resort. #thankscorona We were able to snag a spot at the RV park due to the plight of Canadian snowbirds, most of whom had to end their trysts in warmer weather in order to get back across the Canadian border for fear of further border restrictions. When we called, we were quoted a $60/night price point, and guaranteed a campsite for the…

Apopka, FL

Scott was the surprise. Scott, Jake, and some Impossible Whoppers, ever heard of it? For those of you who read the blog that is previous to this blog, chronologically, and also in the order I expect and recommend you read these blogs while you sit atop your porcelain thrones – I mentioned a surprise. A surprise that Jake, with his ‘always striving for better’ tendency, kept jacking up because he kept changing our Dyna plans and my secret plan was dependent on where we would be and what we would be doing in Dyna. The surprise was Scott. Jake’s best…

Fort De Soto, FL

Jake snagged us two weeks in a campsite at Fort De Soto County Park just south of St. Petersburg Florida for late January through early February. For those who are unaware, this is a decently impressive feat. Garnering more than a night or two in a single campsite at Fort De Soto without playing the ‘sit at the computer 11 months in advance at 8 a.m. ready to hit the reserve button’ game is damned-near championship level. Fort De Soto Jake got us two full-weeks. In the same campsite. 2 weeks before our arrival. Jake is cool. My new home…

Kansas City, MO

Kansas City. Two cities with the same name straddling the state line of Kansas and Missouri. What is where? Hey, the details tripped up our dear president. Which, arguably, is not difficult to do. Ok, no, not arguably. It’s easy to trip up dear leader. But if it tripped you up too… don’t worry. I won’t lump you in with Donald. And yes, I am writing this as ‘Liz from the future.’ A future where we had visited Kansas City (both of them!) months before the Mr. Trump’s flub.
