Sioux Falls, SD (& a ROC Trip)

As I sit here at the second truck repair shop we’ve slept at in less that a week, I still can’t get over what a great month+ we’ve had in Sioux Falls (with a 10 day trip back to ROC sans RV). Our home address! We made it ‘home’! Even sitting in this repair shop, with our broken drive axle & jacked up differential – I just feel so happy about so much of the stuff that we got to experience over the past little bit. Waiting for her day with the Dr. Repair shop? Yeah, we screwed our axle.…

Jackson, MS (& Franklin, NC)

After spending Mardi Gras 2019 in New Orleans, we checked a map and saw Jackson, Mississippi a few hours North. Why not? Timberlake Campground Sunset Dyna spent a full two weeks in a space at Timberlake Campground just outside of Jackson. However, Jake, Lucy and I had plans to ditch her for about a week and follow Scott up to Franklin, NC where his AT adventure would approximately place him. Jackson seemed like a decent place to launch from. We’re conscious of Dyna’s slow driving pace – and her ability to burn $$ in diesel form. The drive to Franklin…

New Orleans, LA (2)

With our stockpile of MoonPies from Mobile dwindling, we pulled into the French Quarter RV Resort in New Orleans. And no, it’s not shameful to eat 3 to 5 MoonPies per person, per day during Mardi Gras season. Or ever. But especially during Carnival/Mardi Gras season. So go on and dismount your MoonPie consumption high horse if you had mounted it. Or stay there. I’m actually jealous that you’re riding a horse and I’m not. French Quarter RV Resort (FQRV) is a swanky little place surrounded by high brick walls on the backside of the French Quarter. It’s clean, maintained,…

Asheville, NC (II)

Some people like Asheville, NC. Some people like getting married. Some people like getting married in Asheville, NC. We like Asheville, NC. A lot. But, we already did the getting married thing. But! We were in luck. Because our friends Scott and Nicky, who also really like Asheville, NC, felt like getting married. So, naturally, they decided to do it in Asheville. Which brought us back to Asheville, NC. Because we weren’t about to miss witnessing Scott getting married to Nicky. In Asheville.

Ditching Dyna: Winston-Salem, NC

Disclaimer: This blog was written at a significant delay (November 2018). As in, the delay was so significant, that I don’t feel that I can accurately represent our time at this location in story form. So, I am just going to post photos I captured here and then ramble about some of my clear memories of the place via some bullet points. How did I get so far behind? Well, there was a summer visit from a nephew, and also a giant party in Rochester that needed to be planned for. But, also, if it comes down to blog writing…

Ditching Dyna: Rochester/Owego Surprise

Sailing, BVI

What do you do when your life partner asks/insists you go on a trip that is completely dependent upon being surround by one of your biggest fears? Attempt to convince him how great this trip could be without you? Yeah, me too. Clearly my persuasion skills are lacking. Because guess what? I ended up on a sailboat in the ocean of the British Virgin Islands. In my defense, those who know Jake should completely understand how I ‘lost’ in my attempts to forgo this trip. And also, I love Jake. He’s the calm to my anxious. And I would go…

Asheville, NC

So, I guess it snows in Asheville. And by “I guess” I mean, yes, it definitely snows. We have proof. But, now we can state: ‘We survived our first real snow in Dyna!’ It wasn’t bad at all. Probably because we’re from NY and are snow professionals. But mostly because Dyna’s previous owner (hey Edward!) kindly left a portable heater in a bay (aka, our basement) when he passed Dyna along to us. Thank goodness for that little electric heater. With our blinds and curtains drawn and that little heater pumping we were plenty toasty. And since we were present with Dyna…

Portland, OR

Portland, Oregon. RIP City. Bridgetown. The city of roses. PDX. Stumptown. Portlandia. Homeless folk central station nation. Ok, the last nickname was given to the city by us. But after we drove RedRammer through several piles of human feces while attempting to park in order to go check out the Saturday Market, I think it might be fitting. (Poor ‘Rammer smelled putrid for the remainder of the day). Because homelessness marked the landscape so prominently, I did a bit of research into why Portland seemed to have so many more people living on the streets than other places we’ve visited. I found…
