Central California Coast

Spent a few weeks boppin’ up and down the centralish Coast of Cali. Actually, I don’t even know what the ‘central’ coast of would be considered. I’m sure Californians have their rules about what they deem central, but since I’m not a Californian I get to make stuff up and call it good. Anyways, this is a post about the time we spent in several places from Big Sur to Half Moon Bay with a few trips up into the city of San Francisco.  We’ve had our homing beacons set on movement towards Big Sur, CA for the past 6ish months. You see…

Disneyland (Anaheim), CA

Dexter’s time galavanting around the country with us in Dyna is coming to a close. He’s got a Daddin’ waiting for him back in NY. And so, we figured, we better party hard while we still can. And when you’re 4 years old, we’ve been told the best parties involve pizza, root-beer, similarly aged cohorts, and/or Disneyland. We decided to go with all of these things, especially since all flights from the West Coast to the East Coast somehow magically pass through LAX. And Disneyland happens to be so near to LA. Also, we’d never been to the West Coast…

Tucson, AZ

We pulled into Tucson, AZ after a 10 hour day of driving. And then, we got stuck. As in, one of our rear drive wheels came off the ground, and since you need both drive wheels touching the ground to move, we weren’t moving. So that wasn’t good. Luckily, we had Bob just a few spaces down to teach us the ways of getting unstuck. These ‘ways’ involve levelers, blocks, and an audience of fellow RVers sitting in lawn chairs watching our debacle. I firmly believe that the audience which predictably forms around any ‘RV idiot moment’ is the most…

Houston, TX

Houston was our ‘home base’ for a month. Although we didn’t spend much of that month in Houston. You see, Houston had the cheapest airport in our 1,000mile vicinity for flying home for Christmas, so, Houston won.  While in Houston for a sorta-month, some pretty big things happened. One of the big things came in a small, energetic, dirt covered package. You’ve guessed correctly; Dexter came to live the RV nomad lifestyle with us (for a while, yet to be determined). Dexter is my 4 year old, truck loving, dirt digging, bug collecting nephew.  The second package came with red hair.…

San Antonio, TX

I’m fixin’ to start this post off with a list of things we’ve noted/learned about Texas thus far. We’ve been here less than a month and have only parked the rig in 3 locations, but DANG. This place is wild. In all sorts of ways. I’m pretty sure Texans actually believe that Texas is the largest continent on Earth. It is also the biggest country in the United States. And also the largest planet in the solar system. I have a lot of respect for this belief. And, being the main driver in our expeditions, I can attest to that…

Marathon, TX

We had plans. Big plans. To go to Big Bend National Park. Because its the ‘playground of Texas.’ And we like playgrounds.  So we booked a spot at the Marathon Motel & RV Park. Because we need internet. And Texas’ playground does not come with internet (its old fashioned or something).  We also needed groceries. Because we’re hungry people. The town of Marathon, TX has exactly one grocery store. And its about the size of our RV.  Regardless, it was an excellent little grocery store.  It had all the things we needed, like ice cream and chorizo. And a flyer…

Colorado Springs, CO, Part II: SCOTT!

Over the past month, Jake and I have been lucky to spend time with several friends from our lives before Dyna who haven’t run away from us screaming “leave me alone crazy people!” Our friend Scott added himself to that list while we were in Colorado Springs, CO. He flew all the way from the not-so-sunny city of Rochester to hang out with us for a long weekend.  We didn’t want to disappoint him by not doing enough stuff, so we climbed 2 ‘Fourteeners‘, hung out 1,000ft below the ground, camped under the Super-Blood-Moon-Eclipse, and drank good beer. Oh, and we…

Colorado Springs, CO, Part 1: DEXTER!

Dexter & Daddin’ (this is my brother’s name since becoming a father. He has also been known to go by ‘Andy’, ‘Terd Burglar’ or ‘Dink Stankle’) made a flight out to see us for a week in Colorado Springs, CO. It was the best week ever. We did a lot of little boy things and some grown boy things and mostly we had fun (although sometimes Dexter became infuriated and proclaimed: “I hate your RV!!!” and threw tantrums because we asked him to take a shower). I wish that we could tow a smaller RV behind our RV so that Dexter…

Salt Lake City, UT

Just spent a sometimes salty, sometimes smelly, mostly subdued two weeks in Salt Lake City, UT.  Sometimes we did fun things like saunter through gardens, shop the farmer’s market, and drive on salt flats. Sometimes we did not so fun things like go to the dentist, remove one of the lunky couches from Dyna, and fix the plumbing (yes, again). Good things about the last two weeks first, because there are more of those and, well, they’re ‘gooder‘. Jake found the ‘Up’ house and brought me to it! I love ‘Up‘, and I love this house. So cool. We made new…

Thompson, UT

This is a post about things that we did in a literal ‘middle of nowhere’.  We spent a week in Thompson, UT. Now, Thompson is not ready to admit that it is a ghost town so they tout Sego (4 miles into a nearby canyon) as ‘the ghost town’.  Anyways, Thompson is about 45 minutes outside of Moab (the closest form of civilization), very few people live or stay there, and Jim of Ballard’s RV Park in Thompson seemed like a nice gentleman, so we decided to stay there. Great decision- we were the only people in the park all…
