Fort Collins, CO

We love Colorado. A lot. Fantastic beer. Amazing opportunities for outdoor activities. Ghost towns. The Rockies almost always looming in the distance. Adventure culture. But there is more in Colorado for us to love than just the ‘Colorado’ of Colorado.  We’ve got people here.  And the people let us moochdock in their driveway. And they cook us food and share adult beverages with us. And they are generally more kind, thoughtful, and engaging than is probably warranted. Medicine Bow National Forest, WY

We heard reports of some good National Forest land between Laramie and Cheyenne, so we pointed Dyna that way. Reports we confirmed- solid boondocking spot out around Pole Mountain in Medicine Bow National Forest. Seriously- gorgeous country. And, as an added bonus, we were the only folks out there for our two night stay! Double bonus: a presidential debate occurred during our stay. And personally, there isn’t a better motivator for experiencing some ‘alone time’ than a presidential debate.  Of course, it’s been a few posts since we’ve had to write about repairs. Rock Springs, WY

Fun fact: Wyoming had the lowest population of all 50 states. So much land. So few people. Not always a bad thing…  We meandered into Rock Springs, WY and parked the big lug at the fairgrounds. After searching for a working water spigot to hook-up to for way longer than was appropriate, we put down our levelers and settled in for a few nights. Rexburg, ID

“Holy crap! Pull over!” Potatoes and onions aren’t the only interesting things in Idaho. Idaho also has ‘the moon.’ Recently, we haven’t been traveling with ‘firm’ plans. We’ve just been driving. East. So, when we drove into Craters of the Moon National Monument, we were pretty surprised. We had no idea that Idaho had a large swath of land impersonating the moon. We’re glad it does; the novelty of this place makes it pretty awesome. In full disclosure, Idaho’s ‘moon’ doesn’t have anything to do with the ‘real’ moon. Big wheels have been turning toward middle America. We don’t have a firm plan of when we’ll arrive. We don’t have a specific route we’re planning to drive. But, we do have a goal of reaching Colorado in the near-ish future.  Idaho is currently providing us with a road to explore while headed in that general direction. Eugene, OR (Round 2)

Some stops are glamorous only in retrospect. Our second rendezvous with the greater Eugene, OR, area was glamorous only in retrospect. We spent much of our second date with Eugene hopping between RV shops. The Eugene, Oregon area (specifically, Coburg and Junction City) is a mecca for RV craftsmen. So, we hunted a few down. We beat them into submission. We forced them to agree to install a new floor, re-upholster our couch, and paint a few trouble spots on Dyna’s 15 year old exterior. Sometimes, the realization that we are ‘living the dream’ hits me like a sack of hard candy. So many moments of perfection. I don’t believe in perfection as a constant state.
